The Discipline of Art

Looking for inspiration? Then stop whiling away your time, reading this post and start doing that one thing you love doing the most but have been procrastinating about for a while. What I have realised with whatever little experience I have had in script writing or writing in general or personally talking to inspiring creators, is that they don’t wait for an inspiration, but simply go ahead doing it. What comes out without an inspiration could be absolutely shitty, but that shit too will have some sort of form. I know it’s getting a bit smelly at this point hehe. The point I am trying to make is that, if you as a creator, devote some part of your day for your passion, it could be just an hour or so, you will at least have moved a fraction of a millimetre ahead in your pursuit to realising that creation. What could be the worst consequence? You would fail miserably maybe at the moment, but you might develop a skill or two, try resolving a few problems and become better at what you love doing the most. Also, don’t forget to enjoy what you are doing. Don’t think of the end result, just keep doing it for the fun of it without keeping any high expectations.

After writing and Directing 7 to 8 short films, I decided to take the next big leap into feature length films since almost 4 years now. I have completed writing first drafts of 7 feature length scripts namely:

10 Mistakes of a Pizza Boy

Tripping Secrets

Bum hai ki manta nahi

What’s Up Dikra

Another one that I don’t want to reveal at the moment

And I have at least 6 to 7 more concepts for feature length films in mind, some of which I have abandoned in between, but still have a potential to be completed. With so many concepts that need to be developed and made into films, I have decided to work on them every single day, completing one feature length script after the other. You never know when you will find that one opportunity to pounce on. I would at least not worry about the next film that I will make after my first one! What if I don’t get that one opportunity? Well, I am positive, that question never occurs to me.

It looks like I have been boasting about what I have done till now as a writer in this blog post, but at this moment I am seriously looking for collaborations and producers who can help me make these films. What’s the point if nobody knows that what I have been upto for so many years! So please don’t mind 🙂

Passion, Love, Humour

Probably, three emotions that help you maintain the right balance in life. It’s not that other emotions like anger and sorrow should be held back as each one of it is humanly and very natural. But when these three emotions – Passion, Love and Humour are in the right proportion, you feel at peace for some reason. Perhaps because passion is what brings in energy and pushes you beyond your limits. Humor is what makes things lighter; a good laugh is a great way to de-stress, also creating situations that make others laugh brings in positivity. Finally love makes you content; the feeling that you are in love and are being loved is what gives you strength to follow your passion fearlessly.

My 90 minuter film, my new baby!

Sorry folks, haven’t been getting time to post on this blog for a long time, but the truth is that something exciting has caught my mind which is keeping the writer in me busy, really busy. Just like a new born baby is everything for its guardians, my new script is special for me.

I have a group of friends who think that films can be made over weekends and on holidays and one does not necessarily have to go by the rules, grind your back and “struggle” in the industry (typical term used by big directors in India) for several years to make a film.

What we believe is that monetary benefits should not ideally be the only motivation to create art. The motivation should also be to vent out what you have to say about something that intrigues you/ interests you/ makes you immensely happy/ disgusts you, through your form of art. If there is truth and conviction in what you have to say there will be an audience who will support and find you for sure.

Not that I am a very successful filmmaker or something, In-fact I have made some ok, some not so good and some shitty short films before, but I am just learning and trying my level best to make good films, my way, by doing an interesting writing day job to pay my bills and working on my films on weekends and holidays.

The film basically will try to explore the dual and corrupt nature of human beings in a funny way. I have finished 55 minutes of my first draft and the good part is that I am extremely lucky to have some really talented actors on board who are also wonderful writers. I am aiming to finish the first draft by 14th May 2014 and then will start taking inputs from my actors to work on the 2nd draft. Let’s see how it goes, all we can do is try.  I will keep updating you about the developments. Cheers!
